You watched me play when I was a child
You kept a close eye on me when I was wild
You protected me from misfortune and harm
You defended me with grace and Your strong arm
You taught me Your ways and told me stories
You wipe my tears and put to ease all my worries
You provided shelter and gave me food
You were never vindictive or crude
But I never changed, I never lived right
I followed my own way with all determination and might
So You turned Your head and closed Your ears
Your heart was broken and You shed tears
You refused to watch the demise of Your child
That precious light no matter how rebellious and wild
You could not bear to witness his fate
But for him, it was finally too late
