“You sound like you’re 95”

They say I’m still young as I’m not getting older
They talk about my potential as if my time isn’t over
But reality tells no tales, the truth is not a lie
For I am but a fool waiting to get drunk or die

When I was younger I waited for The Lord to save me
I spent hours listening to proverbs and prophecy
I looked for Him during the day and called to Him at night
I begged Him to show me what was true and what was right

But I called out to silence and to no avail
Why this fate was chosen for me I can’t tell
So I hold on to hopelessness despite what I pray
And wait for the hour my soul is free to fly away
